Day 4 (June 1)

I woke up very late, and was afraid I missed my first class meeting. Even though it was Sunday our classes were meeting for half an hour to go over syllabi for class. Something made me think we were all supposed to meet at 1pm to find out where our classes would be meeting. Digital Media didn’t meet until 2pm and choir was directly after at 2:30. In Digital Media those of us who did not already have Reason (a very complicated looking music-making program) installed. Before I had the program completely installed I had to run over to the student lounge in the little building to go to the choir meeting. In the choir meeting we only went over what would happen during the next few weeks. Dr. B also told us some of his traveling plans, such as visiting Dachau.

After we were all done with class meetings, I took my laptop to the library hoping to catch up on journaling and also figure out the new music programs on my computer. Reason is unreasonably complicated right now. There are so many buttons, and bleeps, and bloops. I decided it would be best to work on journaling… I was looking quite frustrated and overwhelmed I am sure. The few people on the computers in the library invited me to go with them to find dinner. I agree, since I missed both lunch and breakfast. I ran up to my room, and grabbed my little bag of “tourists essentials” my camera, sunglasses, my money purse, and an umbrella in case it rains. It is a drawstring bag to prevent pickpockets and it fits snuggly on my back.

We waited for the bus to arrive, and took off downtown. We got off at the first convenient-looking spot. There was a cute pizza place up the street so we decided to walk up there. On the way up we discovered a little alley with a Japanese and Chinese restaurant. They did not open for another hour and a half. So we continued up to the Italian Restaurant. When we got there we found out it did not open for another hour. We debated on what to do. We decided to keep walking down the street to see what other restaurants we could find. Everything was still closed since it was too early in the evening, about 5 or 6pm.

Finally, we decided we were in the mood for some Chinese. We backtracked to the Chinese place, only to realize that the street we were on connect almost directly to the street that had the restaurant on it. Those little alleys are so handy, but it was quite frustrating when we realized we spent so much time and energy to get back to where we had started. We walked a cute little shopping area (it was recommended in a guidebook I had read). A few people in the group got tired and sat down. I wanted to keep walking; to see what else there was along the way. So I told them I would walk back down the other way of the street (we had entered in the middle), and I would be back in a little bit. Apparently, they did not hear me because when I got back they were no longer there. I checked back at the Chinese restaurant and they were there. I figured they would be. It was refreshing to feel independent for a few minutes, and made me think about what it would be like when I did eventually start traveling solo during my future career. I started felling even more excited about this trip, and my future.

After a delicious Chinese buffet (MSG? or naturally wonderful?), we walked around the city. I showed them the pub I had gone to the night before, we walked across the river, and stopped in at a very hip-looking bar. Three of the people in the group ordered drinks since one of them had to use the restroom (it is very impolite to not order something or pay for a restroom, unless it is obvious the restrooms are free).

We walked around after that trying to find an ice cream shop that they had gone to the day before. It turned out to be the cute Habakuk CafĂ©! I got a scoop of ice cream for a Euro. It was homemade and well worth it. It was so delicious and soft! We walked up a very small super cute alley. It looked like it was partially residential. I would have loved to live there, but I’m sure it was expensive.

I came back and tried working on figuring out the music programs, and writing in my journal. I was so tired after all the walking around so I went to bed around 11 after talking with my mom.
